The Age of the Geeks

Bio

The Age of the Geeks Cosplay Group Chicago Chapter (AoG) was established in February 2015 among fourteen different cosplay enthusiast of with various costume building disciplines, such as armor fabrication, prop making, and sewing. Our demographic ranges between the ages of 10 to 70, with followers from here in Illinois, to the surrounding states of Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan and Missouri. We also have strong ties in NYC, New York, Orlando, Florida, and The San Francisco Bay Area in California, as many of our members are from out of state and still keep in touch with their hometown cosplay communities. As of January 2017, AoG has launched their AoG Orlando chapter. Our greatest strength is our interpersonal connections. The Age of the Geeks is a group of culturally diverse set of members with various different skill sets. We have members that work as professional theater costume designers, Costumers with a Cause community-service volunteers, Reed-Pop Crown Championship of Cosplay builders, members of the 501st Official Star Wars costuming unit, cosplayers featured in outlets like Cosplay Culture magazine and ChicagoNow, along with other affiliations inside and out of the cosplay community. Because of our connections, we have earned promotional agreements with both Reed-Pop to promote C2E2 and Wizard World to promote Wizard World Chicago conventions. As well in 2015 AoG was featured Cosplay Guests and Hosted Comic Convention Cosplay Contests for 6 different local and regional cons. Unlike many other cosplay groups interested strictly in costuming, The Age of the Geeks are experienced in throwing promotional events. We have worked with notable Chicago sites like Geek Bar, Brando's Speakeasy, and The Emporium Bar/Arcade to provide our vendors and fans cosplay events to promote local conventions. At our last event we drew 200+ people, which was another rise from our previous engagements. In 2017 AoG expects to bring bigger and better events in the geek community in Chicago and to bring back the “PLAY” in “COSPLAY”.
